Cotton Loopwheel Heritage Tshirt “OPEN EDITION”.

Woven on a Tompkins loopwheel machine, a design developed in 1847, running at twenty-four revolutions per minute. Where modern circular knitting produces ten metres of fabric per hour, this produces one. The pace is impractical. The result is irreplaceable.

The fabric sits at 210gsm, lighter than it feels, softer than it looks. The slow knitting speed builds a surface tension that no contemporary machine can replicate. The slub character of the yarn adds natural irregularity across the cloth. No two pieces carry the same texture.

It starts soft. With each wash and wear, the fabric gradually develops a denser, crunchier hand, the loopwheel structure settling deeper into itself. Not wear. Not deterioration. The material becoming what it was always going to be. Loopwheel pieces from the 1950s are still sought after for exactly this reason.

Constructed tubular, knitted in the round, no side seams. Double-layer ribbed collar. Single-needle chainstitch at the cuffs and hem. Wide double-needle reinforcement along the sleeves. An asymmetric chest pocket, positioned slightly off-centre.
